What is Trauma? 

Psychological Trauma is extreme stress to the psyche that overwhelms a person’s ability to cope with the emotions associated with an event. Trauma can be a result of a single event like an accident, death of a loved one or being exposed to acts of violence or other extreme events, or can be the result long term exposure to highly stressful situations including dealing with a serious illness, highly stressful work or social environment and trying to cope with the issues affecting close loved ones and friends. 

What is PTSD?

PTSD Is a mental disorder that can develop after a person is exposed to a traumatic event, such as sexual assault, warfare, traffic collisions, abuse, or other threats to a person’s life or a close loved one. People experiencing PTSD may experience disturbing thoughts, feelings or dreams related to the traumatic events mental or medical distress including panic attacks, extreme stress, and avoidance of situations and environments that remind the client of the initial traumatic event. A person experiencing PTSD is at increased risk for suicide, intentional self-harm and impaired relationships with others. 

 

What is Trauma Focused Therapy?

Trauma Focused Therapy is a unique therapy approach that specializes in helping clients relieve the symptoms related to PTSD and trauma related effects. It focuses on treating both the psychological and physical factors that are impacted by trauma and combines both physical and psychological treatments to reduce stress anxiety and other side effects due to trauma and can help the patient return to normal functioning and allow the client to no longer avoid situations that have caused elevated stress and panic attacks in the past.
